Winter Activities in Costa del Sol

Winter is here – and the Costa del Sol is abuzz with activity as it is one of the most popular winter destinations for tourists from UK, Ireland and northern Europe. Costa del Sol is just a short flight away to escape the cold and dreary winters, plus there are great deals on flights and accommodation during this time. There is much to do here during winter, with an average of 5 hours of glorious sunshine a day.

Winter Golf: Costa del Sol is a golf course haven, with more than 100 courses of great variety that suit all pockets, standards and tastes. The mild climate here means that you can still play in the sunshine in shorts and polo shirts, which is the perfect for golf enthusiasts trying to escape the worst of the winter and least inviting golf conditions in UK and northern Europe. Top winter golf courses include the Valderrama, La Reserva, San Roque, Estepona, La Quinta, Mijas Golf and El Paraiso.

Culture in Malaga: Costa del Sol’s capital city, Malaga, is treasure trove for culture buffs. It is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, and there are two world-class museums dedicated to him here. Other attractions include The Cathedral, a majestic building that is worth visiting, as well as The Alcazaba – a Moorish fortress that overlooks the city from a hilltop inland. Don’t forget to visit The Interactive Museum of Music, which is home to Europe’s largest collection of music instruments and the Museum of Glass and Crystal, which boasts a collection of over 3000 pieces of glass from several eras. Malaga is hosting a Christmas Circus from 21st December 2014 – 11th January 2015, which will feature high class circus acts suitable for the whole family. This show has been created and designed for the festive period and is worth seeing.

Wildlife: There are several zoos and adventure parks that are open during winter in Costa del Sol. These include The Crocodile Park in Torremolinos, The Bioparc Zoo in Fuengirola, Sea Life and Selwo Marina in Benalmadena and the Selwo Adventure Park in Estepona. Be sure to check out opening times before visiting.
